Care

Care you can count on.

Routine and medical eye care for every age, from a first exam around age four to cataract follow-up. If it involves the eye, start here rather than at an urgent care. Retinal imaging is $19 right now, and we recommend it at almost every visit.

Growing Eyes

Pediatric eye care is the front door.

First exams, school-age checkups, and myopia management for kids in Fairview, Allen, Lucas, Lovejoy, and McKinney. A school screening is not this visit.

Pediatric

Children's Eye Exams

Children in Fairview and Allen should have a comprehensive eye exam by age 5, especially before they start school, and then every year through their school years. We begin seeing kids around age 4. A school vision screening is not an eye exam — it checks distance vision only and misses focusing, eye teaming, and eye health.

Myopia Management

Myopia management uses specialty contact lenses, low-dose atropine drops, or orthokeratology to slow how fast a child's nearsightedness worsens. Studies show these approaches can reduce myopia progression by roughly 40–60% compared with standard glasses. The goal is a lower final prescription in adulthood and lower lifetime risk of retinal disease.

Comprehensive Eye Exams

A comprehensive eye exam at Fairview Eyecare takes about 45 minutes and covers vision, eye health, and screening for conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic changes. Most adults should be examined once a year.

Computer Vision & Screen Strain

Computer vision strain is the focusing fatigue that shows up as blur, headache, dry eyes, or neck pain after hours on a screen. An eye exam at Fairview Eyecare in Allen checks the prescription at computer distance, the tear film, and whether a separate pair or a specific lens design would actually help.

Nearsightedness, Farsightedness & Astigmatism

Nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism are focusing problems, not eye diseases. A comprehensive exam at Fairview Eyecare measures which one you have, how much, and whether glasses, contact lenses, or — for a child whose nearsightedness is climbing — myopia management is the right next step.

Glasses

Frames & Glasses

Fairview Eyecare fits glasses in the office at 1546 E Stacy Rd in Allen. The optician matches the frame to the prescription — especially for kids and for stronger lenses — and most vision plans can be used toward the pair.

Sunglasses & Prescription Sunwear

Prescription sunglasses and quality non-prescription sunglasses are available at Fairview Eyecare in Allen. Lenses should block UV, and many patients use leftover vision-plan benefits or FSA and HSA funds toward a second pair.

Contact lenses

Contact Lenses

A contact lens fitting measures the shape of the eye and tests lens performance on the eye — it is a separate service from a glasses exam, which is why it carries a separate fee. Fairview Eyecare fits daily disposables, monthly lenses, astigmatism and multifocal lenses, and specialty lenses for keratoconus and irregular corneas.

Specialty & Multifocal Contacts

Specialty contact lenses at Fairview Eyecare include multifocal contacts, toric lenses for astigmatism, and custom lenses for keratoconus and irregular corneas. A fitting is separate from a glasses exam because the lens has to be checked on the eye, not just ordered from a power.

Medical eye care

Dry Eye Treatment

Dry eye is usually caused by poor tear quality rather than not enough tears — most commonly meibomian gland dysfunction, where the oil glands in the eyelids stop working properly. Treatment starts with an evaluation of the glands and tear film, then a plan that may include prescription drops, in-office gland treatment, and lid care.

Medical Eye Care

Most eye problems should be seen by an eye doctor rather than a general urgent care or emergency room, because they have the equipment to actually look at the eye. Fairview Eyecare treats eye infections, pink eye, corneal abrasions, foreign bodies, sudden floaters or flashes, and eye pain, and bills these visits to medical insurance rather than vision insurance.

Urgent Eye Care

For an eye emergency during office hours, text or call Fairview Eyecare at (214) 383-5400 and ask for a same-day medical visit. After hours, call (972) 922-7537. Go to an emergency room instead for chemical burns, penetrating injuries, or eye problems alongside a head injury.

Surgery Co-Management

Surgery co-management means your optometrist handles the evaluation before surgery and the follow-up visits after it, while a surgeon performs the procedure. For cataract surgery and LASIK, this keeps most of your appointments close to home instead of at a distant surgical center.

Diabetic Eye Exams

A diabetic eye exam looks for retinopathy and other diabetes-related changes inside the eye, and it is billed to medical insurance rather than vision insurance. Fairview Eyecare in Allen performs diabetic eye exams and sends the findings back to the doctor managing the diabetes.
