Myopia Management
Myopia management uses specialty contact lenses, low-dose atropine drops, or orthokeratology to slow how fast a child's nearsightedness worsens. Studies show these approaches can reduce myopia progression by roughly 40–60% compared with standard glasses. The goal is a lower final prescription in adulthood and lower lifetime risk of retinal disease.
Standard glasses correct a child's vision today. They do not slow the underlying change. Myopia management does.
This matters beyond the prescription number. Higher myopia carries higher lifetime risk of retinal detachment, glaucoma, and myopic maculopathy. Slowing the progression while a child is still growing is the only window you get.
