Insurance & billing

Two kinds of insurance. We sort them out.

Vision insurance pays for a routine exam and a benefit toward glasses or contacts. VSP, EyeMed, Davis, and the other vision plans below live here.

Medical insurance is your regular health plan. It pays when something is wrong — infection, injury, dry eye, glaucoma, diabetes — the same way it would for any other doctor.

Which one we bill depends on why you came in, not on which card you hand us first. Our staff does this every day. They will check both cards and help you get the most out of the benefits you already have.

Vision insurance

For seeing better

A yearly routine exam plus a materials allowance toward glasses or contact lenses. Think VSP, EyeMed, Superior, Spectera.

  • Routine eye exam
  • Glasses or contact lens allowance
  • Frame and lens discounts

Medical insurance

For something wrong

Your regular health plan. Covers eye disease, injury, and ongoing conditions — same as any other medical visit, with your usual copay and deductible.

  • Pink eye, infections, injuries
  • Dry eye disease
  • Glaucoma and diabetic eye exams
  • Sudden floaters, flashes, vision change

The overlap: if you come in for a routine exam and we find something medical, part of that visit may be billed to your medical plan. We will tell you when that happens rather than surprising you on a statement.

Questions we get every week

What is the difference between vision insurance and medical insurance for an eye exam?
Vision insurance covers a routine exam and a materials benefit toward glasses or contacts. Medical insurance covers eye problems — infections, injuries, dry eye, glaucoma, diabetic eye exams. Which one gets billed is determined by why you came in, not by which card you hand us. If you come in for a routine check and we find a medical issue, part of the visit may be billed to medical.
Do you take my insurance?
We accept Aetna, Avesis, Block Vision, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Davis Vision, EyeMed, Eyetopia, Golden Rule, HealthChoice, Humana, Medicaid, Medicare, Molina Healthcare, NVA, Spectera, Superior Vision, Tricare, UnitedHealthcare, VisionCare, and VSP, among others. Our staff works with these plans every day and will help you get the most from your benefits. Text or call (214) 383-5400 with your card and we will verify your specific plan before the visit.
What does a contact lens fitting cost on top of the exam?
A contact lens fitting is a separate service from the glasses exam because it involves measuring the eye's surface and evaluating how the lens performs on it. Many vision plans cover part of it. We will tell you the cost before we do it.
Can I use my FSA or HSA?
Yes. Exams, glasses, contact lenses, and prescription sunglasses are all eligible FSA and HSA expenses.
What if I do not have insurance?
Yes. Text or call (214) 383-5400 and we will tell you the exam cost before you book.

Not sure whether we take your plan?

If yours is not listed, text or call anyway. The staff will check the plan and help you use every benefit that applies.
