When to book your child’s first eye exam in Allen and Fairview
A child should have a comprehensive eye exam by age 5, especially before starting school. Fairview Eyecare in Allen begins seeing kids around age 4, and recommends a yearly exam once a child is in school.
That visit is more than a letter chart. We look at how the eyes focus, how they work together, and whether the eye itself is healthy. A child who sees poorly in one eye will not complain. That eye never had a clearer version to compare it with.
Lovejoy, Lucas, and McKinney families run into the same gap. A preschool screening or the school nurse’s chart checks distance vision in a hallway. It misses focusing problems, eye teaming, and anything happening inside the eye. If your child passed a screening and still squints, loses their place while reading, or gets a headache after school, book the full exam.
Growing Eyes is how we book pediatric visits at Fairview Eyecare. Plan on a first visit that includes the parent in the room. Bring the current glasses if there are any. If a prescription is climbing every year, ask about myopia management at the same appointment — that is the window, while the child is still growing.
Book the visit.
New patients can schedule online and send paperwork before they arrive. The office is at 1546 E Stacy Rd #100, Allen.
